A heartfelt invitation to discover Mount Cameroon—an ascent that awakens freedom, self‑encounter, human connection, and personal transformation.
From the Highest Point of Central and West Africa: An Invitation to Experience Mount Cameroon
In life, when one has lived a transformative experience, it becomes impossible not to share it—especially with those one loves. That is what I have done in the previous articles. Today, I would like to explain why I believe the Mount Cameroon experience is worth recommending to others. This is my invitation to you to visit the summit.
An Invitation to Freedom
The Mount Cameroon experience is, above all, an experience of freedom.
To embark on this journey, one must free oneself from:
- the fear of the mountain,
- the fear of the unknown.
These are often the first barriers that hold back those who secretly dream of reaching the summit one day.
One must also free oneself from the illusion of being too busy. Some people believe they cannot go because they lack time. Yet the experience is so enriching that it gives you, at last, time to be with the most important person in your life: yourself.
An Invitation to Encounter
The mountain is a sacred place of encounter. In many religious traditions, mountains are meeting points between the human and the divine.
For me, this encounter with transcendence happened through the meeting:
- with myself,
- and with my fellow companions on the journey.
Self‑encounter is unavoidable when climbing Mount Cameroon. Some try to create noise or listen to music as they climb. But at some point, silence imposes itself. Questions arise:
- What am I doing here?
- Did I make the right decision?
- Should I stop and go back?
It is in these moments that one learns to encourage oneself—and to encourage others.
The Mount Cameroon ascent is also an opportunity to encounter others. We were small groups on the slope, coming from various backgrounds:
- people from the local community,
- Cameroonians from other regions,
- people from Europe and America,
- older hikers and younger ones,
- women and men from different professional spheres.
Words of encouragement came from everywhere. Offers to hold a hand during difficult passages, acts of kindness during meals—everything reflected mutual support.
An Invitation to Self‑Overcoming
When exhaustion sets in, new questions emerge:
- How can I continue?
And this is when self‑overcoming appears. One suddenly discovers inner energy that sustains the body even when it feels objectively weak.
When you finally reach the summit, all fatigue disappears. You see yourself differently. You take photos. And you begin thinking of the story you will soon tell others.
I must end this invitation by clarifying that climbing Mount Cameroon requires physical endurance. It is strongly recommended to undertake it in good health and with prior physical training. In case of doubt, it is wise to speak with a doctor and to inform the porters or guides as soon as possible about any health concerns so they can support you appropriately.

There is something unique about climing a big mountain, one has to be light yet not lacking the necessary!
