On the Shores of the Atlantic Ocean: The Limbe Botanic Garden

At the foot of Mount Cameroon stands a beautiful and rapidly growing city, often called the City of Friendship. What struck me most during my time there was its magnificent botanical garden. Not far from it is also a zoological garden, but I will focus here only on the botanical one.

A Small Paradise on Earth

It has been many years since I first visited the Limbe Botanic Garden. I was so impressed by this place that every time I travel to Limbe, I make sure to visit it again. For me, this botanical garden is a little piece of paradise—a place one must absolutely see.

What can you find there?

  • towering trees of the equatorial forest,
  • shrubs, lianas and trailing plants of all kinds,
  • a wide variety of herbs,
  • flowers of every color, each with its own unique fragrance.

A Place Filled with History

Curious about the origins of the garden, I looked into its history and discovered that it is nearly as old as the political entity known today as Cameroon. Over the years, people from different backgrounds, driven by diverse motivations, have invested energy and resources to envision, create, maintain, and continue caring for this remarkable space.

A Place with Great Potential for the Future

After my most recent visit to the Limbe Botanic Garden, an idea came to me. I told myself that I would do everything possible to help make this extraordinary place known.

I imagined the garden being associated with a university—inviting botanists from all over the world to conduct research and experiments there. Such a place could become a laboratory for the future of our planet.
For whoever understands the virtues of plants understands:

  • human health,
  • animal health,
  • plant health,
and the one who cares for a plant cares for the entire ecosystem and the whole of ecology.
